ROMA\ aise\ - Era il 22 febbraio 1931 il giorno del varo della nave scuola Amerigo Vespucci, che oggi, dunque, festeggia i suoi primi 90 anni di attività presso gli stabilimenti nautici di Castellammare di Stabia, in Campania. “Non chi comincia ma quel che persevera”. Questo il motto del veliero che da 90 anni è il fiore all’occhiello della Marina Militare italiana. Indiscussa “Signora del mare”, l’Amerigo Vespucci rappresenta l’eccellenza italiana nel mondo.
“Oggi un traguardo storico che ci rende più che mai orgogliosi”, ha commentato il Ministro della Difesa, Lorenzo Guerini.
Nata come Regia nave scuola dell’allora Regno d’Italia con Re Vittorio Emanuele III, da sempre è uno dei simboli della Marina Militare nel Paese, immagine inconfondibile che risalta nei porti e nelle acque della nostra Nazione. Simboleggia l’Italia nel mondo, attirando migliaia di persone in ogni porto per ammirare lo stile italiano che sfoggia e rappresentando un nostalgico “pezzo d’Italia” per tutti i nostri connazionali all’estero.
Il compito più importante che nave Vespucci porta avanti fin dal suo varo è l’addestramento di tutti gli ufficiali di Marina, che al termine del primo anno di Accademia vivono su questo “veliero” la loro prima esperienza d’imbarco.
Tranne rarissime eccezioni dovute a lavori straordinari di ammodernamento, ogni estate gli allievi della prima classe dell’Accademia Navale di Livorno sono imbarcati su nave Vespucci mettendo in pratica quanto studiato sui libri e nelle classi dell’Istituto di formazione.
I 90 anni di nave Vespucci rappresentano un altro record di questa nave, come la risalita del Tamigi di Londra o l’uscita dal canale navigabile di Taranto, entrambi eccezionali eventi velici.
È già all’orizzonte la nuova campagna d’istruzione e gli allievi della attuale prima classe dell’Accademia saranno presto chiamati ad imbarcare.
L’attuale motto della nave è "Non chi comincia ma quel che persevera", frase attribuita a Leonardo Da Vinci e che ben rappresenta l’ideale che spinge in mare i 250 membri dell’equipaggio a cui si sommano i circa 130 uomini e donne dell’Accademia Navale. (aise)
